3 Chord Thursday: ukulele all over the world

On Thursday 3rd February 2022, we celebrate World Ukulele Day which falls on 2/2/2022 (in fact, 2nd day of the 2nd month every year). We will share songs about the joy of playing the ukulele in any language or culture. Songs that are famously accompanied by the ukulele, songs about the ukulele, … songs with ukulele in the title are all possibilities.

DRESS CODE: your favorite ukulele T-shirt or other apparel with ukulele on it

We will reserve air time to share what we love about playing the ukulele. Share what lights you up about the ukulele in this Google Form.

There are songs with ukulele in the title, such as “Ukulele Lady” and songs about playing the ukulele. Then there are songs made famous because of the ukulele that’s played like Tiny Tim’s “Tip Toe Through the Tulips”, “I’m Yours”, “Hey Soul Sister” and Brother Iz’s “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

Or you can perform a song in another language with the ukulele.

Can you think of any song to share with us?

To ensure everyone is prepared for your song, please submit your request and your song sheet by the 3 pm EST (8 pm GMT, 10 am HST) Sunday before Thursday. Request to perform a song.

Before the pandemic locked us down, in-person jam sessions were a common thing. Here’s one celebrating the first anniversary of a new ukulele club of the bigger Ukulele Union of Boston just before World Ukulele Day in 2019 with 24 popular songs from the Ukulele Wednesday Songbook (which contains 277 songs). Download the abridged 25-page songbook and follow the video to jam along. There are hyperlinks to take you from the song titles on the first page to the one-page song sheets and then back (bottom right hand corner) to the first page. The password to open the 25-page PDF is 3chordthursday
