Three Chord Thursdays at Three: 60’s Hits

We are spoiled for choice when it comes to three chord songs in the sixties, the era of flower children and free love. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Kinks “invaded” America as The Beach Boys spewed out surfer songs. We are designating four dates for the songs of the sixties, as follows:

Illustrated by Nancy Aronson

Just for fun, can you guess where these songs come from? Even better, can you sing and accompany yourself on the ukulele without resorting to song sheets?

Here is a first stab at listing three chord songs, with some relaxation of the three chord constraint. In another words, what harm is it to include the no-finger chord of Am7 (or C6) and one-finger chords like C, Cmaj7, C7, Am, and A7? Bolded titles link to song sheets that can be easily transposed.

For Part 2 on June 25th, 2020, priority is given to those songs that were not performed on June 18th (italicized and also listed at the bottom of the webpage). Please use the Google Form to request a song you’d like to do.

For Part 3 on July 30th, 2020, priority is given to songs that were not performed previously and that are three chords only. Please visit the Three Chord Thursday Challenge for the latest set list. The line-up (order of songs) will be determined on or shortly before that date, to allow time for the medley.

Three Chord Thursday Challenge

Create a song sheet (with chord names, chord diagrams, lyrics) out of Reflections of a Boomer image shown above (which is a medley of lyrics from different songs) so that everyone can sing and play along to it (exactly as the words appear in the image) on Thursday July 30, 2020, at part 3 of the 60’s hits.

All participants in that zoom session will vote in a poll for the best song sheet that’s created.

The winner will receive two gift vouchers of drop-in sessions (one per voucher) to use in one of Anne’s online courses in Zoom in the month of August 2020.

The runner up will receive one gift voucher of a drop-in session to one of Anne’s online courses in Zoom in the month of August 2020. Click here for more information.
