World Wasp Day 9-24-25

Does anyone know when World Wasp Day was first introduced? Is it observed on the 24th day of September every year? What is clear is that this international day is aimed at raising awareness of wasps, their importance in our world as well as their dangerous sting. I am going to acknowledge it musically.

Join our free workshop in Zoom, to dive into two pieces of music for the ukulele inspired by wasps. Learn the musical elements and ukulele playing techniques that will help prepare for music for Halloween.

The one-hour session will be recorded and livestreamed on YouTube. Get the unlisted video link and other options to join the session by registering in Zoom.

Tony Mizen's book Arthropoda, seven compositions for ukulele

Special guest

Tony Mizen, author of Arthropoda, seven compositions for the ukulele inspired by insects, including the wasp. Famous for introducing ukulele players to lute music, From Lute to Uke, Tony is a prolific multi-instrumentalist and interpreter of music for plucked and fretted instruments. He has collaborated with Paul Mansell on 2kulele, a ukulele duet book of classical music.

Tony Mizen’s Wasp is programmatic, that is, music that describes what wasps do and are. How does he achieve and convey this in music?
