Anne Ku, pianist
Tell someone about this: | Born in Brunei
of Chinese parents, Anne Ku grew up on Okinawa where she received her first piano
lesson at age eight. She studied piano under Randall Love at Duke
University. In her final year, she performed Debussy's L'isle Joyeuse in the
Gina Bachauer Masterclasses
with Claude Frank.
As an AB Duke Scholar, she also received the esteemed AJ Fletcher Music Performance
Scholarship which supported her senior recital of French impressionist works.
In 2001, Anne started a programme of intimate concerts in London to introduce her music to local audiences. At the Easter Concerts in Bussum and Hilversum, Netherlands in March 2002, she released her work "In Pursuit of Flexibility" containing 80 minutes of her inspiring piano solo compositions and arrangements. Known for her intuitive sightreading ability, Anne has performed in the Netherlands as a special guest of the Dutch guitar and violin Duo Magenta. She enjoyed a short stint as pianist-in-residence at the Renaissance Hotel Heathrow in 2002-2003. Since age 16, she has played the piano and the organ and directed the music programme at weddings in Okinawa, California, the Netherlands, England, and Ireland. She performs regularly with Dutch guitarist Robert Bekkers in a series of piano and guitar duo concerts in the Netherlands and elsewhere.
