Jim Christian

Chief Technology Officer, EnWorkz, Austin, Texas

Prior to joining EnWorkz, Jim Christian managed product development and marketing teams at Trilogy, an enterprise software company. He has also held senior technical positions at large and small companies, and he served as an associate professor of computer science at a top Japanese university. His technical experience includes enterprise software, mathematical logic, artificial intelligence, optimization, neural networks, financial modelling, and advanced programming language design. He has published a number of business and technical papers. Jim holds a B.A. in computer science from Harvard, as well as both a Ph.D. in computer science and an M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin.


Isaac Dyner

Professor in Operational Research and Energy at the Energy Institute, Universidad Nacional de Colombia

Isaac Dyner has been an Academic Visitor at Imperial College, City University, London Business School, and several universities in Latin America. He obtained his Ph.D. from London Business School and Masters of Sciences from University of Warwick and Southampton University

He has published widely in the areas of energy, operational research, system dynamics and simulation. He has presented papers extensively at international conferences and his publications include among others articles in Journal of Operational Research, Energy Policy, International Journal of Global Energy Issues and System Dynamics Review and as well as three books. He has consulted for companies and governments in the areas of strategy, deregulation and modelling.


Alexander Eydeland

Dr. Alexander Eydeland is Vice President and Head of Research for Mirant Americas Inc. He leads research efforts in developing models and strategies to support marketing, trading, and risk management, and in designing systems for evaluation, optimization and management of energy assets. His previous positions include vice president with Fuji Capital Markets Corp., vice president at Lehman Brothers and associate professor of mathematics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Eydeland holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. His papers are published in major journals in scientific computing, mathematical economics, optimization, and operations research. He has delivered numerous presentations at major universities and conferences in the United States, Europe, and Japan. He has also been honored with awards from the National Science Foundation and the Lilly Foundation. He is a co-author (with K. Wolyniec) of the book "Energy and Power Risk Management" published by Wiley and Co.


Lance Hinrichs

Lance Hinrichs is a Houston based energy specialist with more than 10 years of experience in the regulated and deregulated electricity industry. He was formerly a Director at Enron Energy Services and structured power and gas transactions for multiple retail customer classes - ranging from mid-sized commercial to large industrials. Later, he managed the team evaluating newly deregulated power markets, developing market strategies and products to capitalize on emerging opportunities. His experience includes product and deal design, strategic market planning, risk management and deal negotiations. He holds a B.A. in economics from the University of Vermont and an M.B.A with a concentration in finance from Columbia University.


Anne Ku

Anne Ku wrote her doctoral thesis on modelling uncertainty in the electricity industry. After receiving her PhD in Decision Sciences from London Business School in 1995, she tested her hypotheses of "flexibility" as a means to cope with uncertainty by working for Enron in Houston and London in electricity and natural gas research and modelling. Prior to energy, she worked for Union Bank of Switzerland and several management consulting firms in London and Singapore. Dr Ku holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Duke University and a Master's in Operational Research from London School of Economics.

Following her two year stint as editor of Platt's Global Energy Business and Energy IT bi-monthly magazines covering the areas of energy trading, risk management, and technology, she now writes about energy topics as an independent critic and maintains a web site for self-expression at http://www.analyticalQ.com.


Erik R. Larsen

Professor in Management and Systems, City University Business School (London)

Erik Larsen previously held appointments at the University of Bologna, London Business School and Copenhagen Business School. During the period 1996-1998 he was an EU Marie Curie Fellow at the University of Bologna. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Institute of Economics, Copenhagen Business School and his MSc from the Technical University of Denmark.

He has published widely in the areas of computational organizational theory and strategy, energy deregulation, and nonlinear dynamics. His publications include among others articles in Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, European Journal of Operational Research, Management Science, Energy Policy and Utility Policy as well as two edited books. He has consulted for companies and governments in the areas of strategy, deregulation and modelling.


Alessandro Lomi

Alessandro Lomi is Professor of Management at the University of Italian Switzerland, Department of Communication Sciences (Lugano, CH) and a member of the Institte of Advanced Studies of the University of Bologna (Italy). In the recent past he was NATO Senior Research Fellow, and researcher in residence at the Santa Fe Institute (Santa Fe, New Mexico). He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Cornell University (Ithaca, New York)


Andrew Miller

Andrew Miller is an experienced electricity industry professional and Chartered Engineer who has worked in the UK's National Power, National Grid Company, and a large IT company active in the energy market. He has a degree in mathematics from Cambridge University, a PhD in Plasma Physics from St Andrews University and a Diploma in Management Studies from the Open University. His key area of specialisation is the application of mathematical programming to the electricity industry.


Fereidoon Sioshansi

President of Menlo Energy Economics, a consulting firm specializing on the economics of the electric power sector.

Dr. Sioshansi's professional experience includes working at Southern California Edison Company SCE), the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), National Economic Research Associates (NERA) and, most recently, Henwood Energy

He has published several major reports, book chapters, and is a frequent contributor to The Electricity Journal and Energy Policy. He is on the editorial board of Utilities Policy.

Dr. Sioshansi has undergraduate and graduate degrees in Engineering from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, and a Masters and Ph.D. in Economics from Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University.


Pushkar Wagle

Senior Economist, LCG Consulting, Los Altos, California

Pushkar Wagle has managed several large projects in the areas of market design, electricity market price forecasting, electricity generating asset valuations, optimization of energy resource portfolio and risk management. He has published widely in the areas of electricity generation and transmission adequacy, ancillary service markets and market-based valuation of coal technologies.

Prior to joining LCG, Dr. Wagle taught undergraduate economics courses as an adjunct lecturer at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He holds a B.S. in Mathematics and a Masters Degree in Mathematical Economics from the University of Bombay, India and a Ph.D. in Economics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.


Krzysztof Wolyniec

Krzysztof Wolyniec is the Director of Asset Modeling at Mirant Corp. He is responsible for modeling power and fuel markets as well as developing hedging and trading strategies around physical power and fuel assets. He holds graduate degrees in Theoretical Physics from the University of Gdansk in Poland and in Business/Management Science from the University of Rochester. He is a co-author (with A. Eydeland) of the book "Energy and Power Risk Management" published by Wiley and Co.
